In the world of capitalism nothing is sacred so we search for meaning where we can find it.
"When consciousness fractures under conflict, a circular image may emerge in a dream or active imagination; it is a compensatory attempt by the Self to recenter the psychic economy. The ego then encounters a spatial metaphor for its proper relation—eccentric yet included."

--Mandala Archetype: How the Self Turns Chaos Into Cosmos, thisjungianlife.com

i began making images of circles within a rectangular field approximately 10 years ago... recently i encountered Carl Jung's thinking about the symbolic importance of mandala's to unification of conscious and subconscious self... i realized i have been on a "selfing" journey for the past 10 years that i recorded in photographic and writing output... this was the surfacing of my anima archetype (the woman inside every man) as a divine feminine figure i felt compelled to express outwardly... i began wearing dresses, lipstick, nail polish, feminine hair styling, etc...

my photographic practice is daily, meditative walking… making pictures of whatever attracts me as i go… most of these circular meditations arose before i became fully conscious of the selfing i was undertaking... i also, and earlier, made a series of images i titled "[dark matter](https://studiombk.com/dark-matter-02)," which was about journey and emergence... i created a "feminine mystique" body of work centered on mannequins in shop windows adorned in women's clothing, which i would imagine myself wearing...
shortly before my feminine erupted to the surface i wrote this...

"I am yin, I am yang. I am the blazing sun of day, I am the waxing and waning moon of night. I am woman, I am man. I welcome these complimentary parts of me to the fullness of my being."

i have never felt more complete than i do now…
